Through the azure stage lights stands the silhouette of Louis Sterling, an experimental music producer, sound artist and collaborator with some of the most well respected talent in today’s electronic music.

While his sound often sits under the Ambient umbrella, musical influences of his neighboring city, Bristol, remain. Throughout his college years, Sterling was mentored by UK dubstep producers Appleblim, Arkist and Gatekeeper, and was fascinated by the works of Flying Lotus and Aphex Twin; sounds that continue to influence Sterling’s cutting edge frequency manipulation, sampling techniques and polyrhythmic drum sequencing. With countless features on radio shows such as BBC Music Introducing, Resonance Extra, Frission Radio and Dublab to follow, his ear for emotional complexity was soon discovered by David August, who from a single demo-tape, signed Louis as the first artist on his record label 99Chants.

Sterling’s debut record, Adisceda (2019), was cited by critics as a “modern-classical meets electronic marvel” with “plenty of interconnected elements to peel back and examine”. Music Journalist Connor Mccaffrey mentioned the album to “Evokes the most delicate corners of Aphex Twin’s Selected Ambient Works and William Basinski”, while Float PR positioned the album next to Tim Hecker. The album continues to resonate, and has made its way into the collections of Frank Wiedemann, Rafael Anton Irisarri, Giulio Aldinucci, and Gigi Masin, who invited Louis to open for his “Vahiné” album tour on stages across the UK in March 2023.
